| Abstract:
This study aimed at verifying whether it is possible to use UV radiation commercially in the control of height and in the conditioning of transplants of greenhouse crops. In greenhouse, plug transplants of tomato, watermelon, salvia, petunia, marigold and vinca were treated with supplemental UV radiation at different time of the year and at different moment of the day. The effects of UV treatments depended on the daily applied dose and the moment of application. The results show that the same dose of UV energy could be ineffective in summer and yet provoke severe damage such as leaf curling, abscission, necrosis and bronzing in winter time. The architecture of tomato, salvia and water-melon can be very effectively controlled by UV treatments, whereas the effects of UV radiation on marigold, vinca and petunia were marginal. | |
