GREENHOUSE EGGPLANT HYBRIDS

DOI:   10.17660/ActaHortic.1977.58.8
Abstract:
The paper presents the results obtained with some eggplant lines and hybrids in field and greenhouse experiments, carried out to determine the level of tolerance to Verticillium sp., and to obtain a biological planting material well adapted to greenhouse conditions.

Hybrid vigour percentages for fruit shape indexes, earliness, average fruit weight, number of fruits per plant, quality and yield were determined for all hybrid combinations.

Investigations corroborated the transmission mode of the main characteristics, as described in speciality literature, and stressed the advantages of F1 hybrids with respect to earliness — the only favorable dominant characteristic, as all the others, including big size, cylindrical and elongated fruit shape, dark colour, brilliance, being recessive, should be found in homozigous state in both parents.

The hybrids H.117, H.120 and H.125 proved highest tolerance to Veritcillium sp., as well as several other favourable characteristics such as: liness, high productivity, small plant size and dark colour of fruits.
