ISHS Acta Horticulturae 58: International Symposium on Vegetable Crops under Glass Protection

CONTRIBUTION TO THE CONTROL OF THE BACTERIAL CANKER OF TOMATO CAUSED BY CORYNEBACTERIUM MICHIGANENSE (E, F, SMITH) JENSEN

Authors:   E. DOCEA, G.H. MARINESCU
Abstract:
Data are presented on the disinfection of seed and soil, the treatments applied at planting and during the vegetation period and the tests conducted on several tomato varieties, lines and hybrids.

As to the disinfection of tomato seed, good results were obtained by vacuum infiltration with Cryptonol (98%) at 0.2%.

The fumigants Di-Trapex C.P., Basamid and Vapam were more effective in disinfecting the artificially infected soil than Formalin, Criptodin and Copper sulphate.

The treatments applied at planting with Cryptonol and Streptomycin reduced the extension of the bacterial canker.

During the vegetation period, the systemic infections were successfully limited by soil treatments with Cryptonol and Streptomycin, and the local infections by alternating treatments with Cryptonol and Miceram.

Resistance to the bacterial canker was recorded in L. 59 (Lycopersicum esculenium), and in Solanum multiflorum.
