ISHS Acta Horticulturae 58: International Symposium on Vegetable Crops under Glass Protection

RESULTS OBTAINED IN THE CONTROL OF VASCULAR DISEASES IN VEGETABLES BY MEANS OF SYSTEMIC FUNGICIDES

Author:   M. COSTACHE
Abstract:
Data are presented on the control of Verticillium dahliae Kleb. in tomato, peppers and eggplants, and Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cucumerinum Owen in cucumbers, these being the principal pathogens inducing vascular diseases in the greenhouse.

In greenhouse trials, a successful control was obtained by preventive treatments with Benlate, Topsin-M, Bavistin and Dercsal, at 0.05–0.1%, applied to the soil at the rate of 0.51 of solution per plant in the Solanaceous crops and 1 l per plant in cucumbers, at 25 to 30 day intervals. During a cropping cycle, two applications are necessary in tomato, and three in peppers, eggplants and cucumbers. The same fungicides also act as curative means if the treatments are applied as soon as the first wilting symptoms appear.

The economic efficiency of the application of systemic chemicals clearly results from the data obtained in commercial cucumber crops.
