DOWNY MILDEW ON THE ROOTS OF RADISH PRODUCED IN GLASSHOUSES |

| Abstract:
The damaging effect on the leaves of radish caused by downy mildew has generally been known for long. Recently this harm was observed on the root as well, both in glasshouses and under plastic cover in Hungary. Greyish-brown irregularly shaped spots could be observed on the surface of the root with the tissue turning grey under the spots. On the surface of the root white conidiophores got developed. The pathogen here is Peronospora brassicae Gäum, as proved from the tissue discoloured. The symptoms observed were reproduced in vitro by author with inoculation. It could be fixed that the root got infected by the conidia washed up from the leaves; so it seems, a regular protection given to the foliage can prevent the damage. | |
