ISHS Acta Horticulturae 58: International Symposium on Vegetable Crops under Glass Protection

IMPORTANT DISEASES AND PESTS OF VEGETABLES IN GLASSHOUSES OF VOYVODINA WITH A PARTICULAR REFERENCES TO CHEMICAL CONTROL OF SCLEROTINIA MINOR JAGG, LEVEILLULA TAURICA (LEV) ARN. AND 'TRIALENRODES VAPORATIORUM WEATW.

Authors:   A. MARIC, F. BALAZ, S. JASNIC, .
Abstract:
Tese authors give a short information about important disesaes and pests of vegetables and their control in glasshouses of Voyvodina (Yugoslavia). They specially stressed on the damages from B. cinerea on tomato and the appearance of tolerant strains to benomyl. Tomato mosaic virus isfrequendistributed and S. minor can be sometimes very harmfull on this crop. Some systemic fungicides, applied by drenching plants exhibited a good eradicative effect against Sclerotinia basal rot, but better results have been achieved with preventive treatment. Powdery mildew (L. taurica) is the most important disease of pepper. In a trial by two sprayings to heavier infected plants, some eradicate effect was achieved with triforine and benomyl. However, a single drencing of pepper with water solution of benomyl (2 g per sq m) showed much better eradicative effect. Powdery mildew (E. cichoracearum), the most harmfull diesease of cucumber is successfuly controlled by alternative applications of various fungicides. Vegetable producers have great difficulties with whitefly control in glasshouses. Here are given some laboratories results of testing efficiency and persistence of various insecticides in controling of whitefly larva and imago.
