ISHS Acta Horticulturae 58: International Symposium on Vegetable Crops under Glass Protection

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SALINITY CONTROL OF GREENHOUSES SOILS BY MEANS OF WASHING

Authors:   M. DRACEA, A.L. MAIANU, E. STANCU, I. BENGULESCU
Abstract:
The researches which were made in the last years showed that many of the greenhouses in Romania presents salinity of the soil, on the first hand due to the storage of great quantities of fertilizers and the accumulated salts in soil from the irrigation waters under the large evapotranspiration conditions in the greenhouses on the whole year. The contribution of the ground waters at the salinity of the soil is very rare not because of the high content of salt, but by the limitation of descending current of irrigated water. It is interesting to mention the contribution of the compactation of the soil due to its wetness and ramming within the harwesting.

So the different degrees of salinity in different greenhouses have a significant influence upon the growing of greenhouses plants, which gave a low tolerance for salinity. The crop decreases were not corresponding to the degree of the salinity because of sulphatic nature of the salts provided by the fertilizer residium and the water used for irrigation.
