ISHS Acta Horticulturae 58: International Symposium on Vegetable Crops under Glass Protection

IMPROVEMENT OF SWEET PEPPER GROWING TECHNOLOGIES

Authors:   V. POPESCU, N. RIDICHE, M. AMZA
Abstract:
In 1975, greenhouse sweet pepper crops occupied over 20% of the entire glasscropping area.

Best results are achieved with the variety Du Danube, as compared to other varieties (Sweet Westland, Gedeon, Cadice, Bergina, etc.).

Seedlings are planted when the first buds are well formed, on ridges or elevated furrows.

Planting is carriedstout from November 20 to December 5 for the first cycle, and about July 1st for the second. Population should be 24,000—25,000 plants/ha, at row sapces of 0.80 m, and 0.50 on the row. Hower it appears that with row spaces of 30–40 cm yields may increase by 13 to 59 %.

Growth and fruit setting control is different for each plant (with 2—3—4 main branches).

Vegetation factors control depends on the actual phenophase of plants, being narrow correlation and interdependence.

In the January—May time interval fruit setting may be thermically induced.

Greenhouse piments growing is sure to provide high returns.
