ISHS Acta Horticulturae 58: International Symposium on Vegetable Crops under Glass Protection

STUDY ON THE INITIATION OF THE INFLORESCENCE AND FLOWER ORGANS IN EGG-PLANTS CULTIVATED IN GREENHOUSES

Author:   A. PARASCHIV
Abstract:
In view of conflict interpretation of the initiation of the egg-plant inflorescence and the development of flowers we present an investigation of this topic.

The inflorescence apex arises from the terminal vegetative apex and the new vegetative apex from the bud axillary, to the first leaf below the transition apex.

The first flower is produced from the tip of the inflorescence apex and the second flower arises laterally to this flower. Sepales, petales and stamens arises independently, in a helical sequence. Carpel primordia initiate individually and later fuse.
