Abstract:
In the years 1995 and 1996, field trials with three potato cvs (Spunta, Marfona and Jaerla) and four different summer planting dates (differing in one week) were established in Northern Greece, to study the effect of planting dates on the yielding characteristics.
The third planting date and the cv.
Marfona had higher percentage of surviving plants, number of tubers and yield per plant and number of tubers and yield per cultivated unit.
The percentage of marketable yield did not vary between the cvs and the three first planting dates while the fourth one was dependent on the length of the growing season.
It is concluded that delaying the summer planting by 2-3 weeks from the usual one, homogeneous and better growth, higher percentage of finally surviving plants and higher total and marketable yield is expected.
