Abstract:
This study was conducted in 1997-1998 in Tokat. The aim of the study was to determine whether cucumber and squash were suitable for second crop growing. Fatih Fı, Toros Fı and Medina Fı cucumber varieties and Eskenderany Fı squash variety were used in the experiment. Seeds of both varieties were sown on July 1st, July 15th of 1997 and August 1st of 1997, and on June 25th and July 10th of 1998. The planting densities used for squash were 100 x 50 cm, 100 x 75 cm, 100 x 100 cm and 100 x 50 x 50 cm, and for cucumber they were 100 x 50 cm, 100 x 100 cm and 150 x 50 cm. In August 1st sowing period of the year 1997, neither of the varieties gave enough yield that could be marketed. The highest yield in squash was obtained in June 25th sowing period of the year 1998 with 100 x 50 x 50 cm planting density, and cucumber showed the same performance in the same period with 100 x 50 planting density. The highest yield in squash was 5.42 kg m-2 and it was 5.50 kg m-2 for cucumber.
