Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to determine dry matter accumulation on potato tubers under Erzurum ecological conditions in 1998 and 1999. For this study, the Granola, Caspar, Kondor and Pasinler-92 cultivars were used.
The first sampling date on August 18th and continued in 15-day intervals until the harvest (October 16th). At four different growing seasons and at the harvest time specific gravity (SG), dry matter (DM) and starch content (SC) of potato tubers were determined.
It was shown that the relationship between different growing seasons and SG, DM, and SCs of tubers were significant (P<0.05). The highest SG, DM, and SC values corresponded to the highest yield at the end of the growing season.
SG, DM, and SC values from the first sample date were increased step by step.
At the last sampling date (harvest time), these values were almost stable.
As a result, it can be concluded that leaves of potato plants were senescing and photosynthesis was almost finished.
The chemicals, which will develop the upper parts of the potato plant, will also improve the photosynthetic rate and help the dry matter accumulation.
