Abstract:
The study was carried out at the Fruit growing Institute-Plovdiv, Specialized Laboratory on apricot,, Silistra during the period 1985-1995. The test plantation was made in the 1980 in areas, which were not irrigated.
The behavior of trees from the apricot cultivar ‘Hungarian apricot’, grafted on the seed rootstocks ‘Uhrepka’/P. insititia L./, ‘Green Gage CD-4’ /P. domestica L. / and vegetative rootstocks ‘Damas GF 1869’, ‘Mariana GF 8-1’ and ‘GF 655/2’ /P. insititia L./ was investigated.
Rootstocks ‘Dzhanka 4’ /P. cerasifera L./ and ‘Alfred’ /P. vulgaris L./ were used as a standard.
The seedling ‘Green Gage CD-4’ and vegetative rootstocks ‘Damas GF 1869’and ‘GF 655/2’ induced slow growth of the trees.
The vegetative rootstocks ‘Mariana GF 8-1’and the seed rootstock ‘Dzhanka 4’ induced intensive growth of the trees.
In general, a higher yield was obtained from the trees, grafted on the rootstock ‘Mariana GF 8-1’. However the combination with ‘Damas GF 1869’ and ‘Greengage CD-4’ as rootstocks provided the highest yield per m3 of the tree crown volume.
The tree longevity depended on the rootstocks used.
The trees with ‘Mariana GF 8-1’ rootstock did not die at all, while the biggest number of dead trees were on ‘Uhrepka’ rootstock.
