Abstract:
With the aim to study the share, and in particular, the pomological properties and cropping of autochthonous plum cultivars in the Eastern Serbia, several trials were conducted.
The properties of these cultivars (fruit size, mass, quality) were determined with the application of pomological methods.
Cropping potential and susceptibility to major parasites and insect pests were recorded.
The described autochthonous plum cultivars within the Timok region were as follows: ‘Crvena Ranka’, ‘Papracanka’, ‘Debeljaca’, ‘Muljac’, ‘Crnica’, ‘Trgonj’, ‘Moravka’ and ‘Pozegaca’. In terms of tree, the cultivars were moderately vigorous to vigorous, mainly with a pyramidal, malformed crown.
Cropping potential was irregular, unequal and alternate.
Fruit mass was medium (ranging from 15.2 g – 26.4 g) with 94.5% - 96.2% of mesocarp.
The content of soluble solids ranged from 12.8% to 15.5%. Fruits were suitable for brandy making; some of them partly for fresh use and partly for processing.
The sensibility to plum pox virus varied with cultivars.
As for parasites, the early red plum and ‘Debeljaca’ were highly susceptible to Polistigma rubrum (Pers.) and Monilinia laxa. In terms of insect pests, a fair susceptibility to Bulecanium corni Bouche, Hoplocampa flava L., H. minuta Christ, Brachycaudus helichrysi Kalt. and Hyaloperus pruni was recorded.
