ISHS Acta Horticulturae 576: International Conference on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. Possibilities and Limitations of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Production in the 21st Century

EFFECTS OF NP SUPPLY ON GROWTH, DEVELOPMENT, YIELD AND ACTIVE SUBSTANCES OF GARDEN THYME (THYMUS VULGARIS L.)

Authors:   R. Omidbaigi, A. Arjmandi
Keywords:   nitrogen supply, phosphorous supply, herb yield, essential oil, thymol
Abstract:
Effect of nitrogen and phosphorous supply was investigated on 3-year-old garden thyme (Thymus vulgaris L) population. The experiment was arranged in randomised blocks with four replicates. The small plot experiment was installed in an experimental field of Tarbiat Modarres University near Tehran, under sandy loam soil condition. Six different dosages of nitrogen (N: 0, 100, 150, 200, 250, and 300 kg ha-1) and phosphorous (P: 0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 kg ha-1) were applied. On the basis of the results nitrogen and phosphorous fertilisation had significant effect on the herb yield and essential oil content but did not change the thymol content.
