Authors:   C. Bunt, M. Piccone
Keywords:   Transaction cost reduction, supply partnerships, market maturity
Abstract:
A banana Supply Chain Management (SCM) project involving BGF Cooperative Ltd (BGF), one of Australia’s leading banana marketing organizations, in conjunction with ACIAR, DPIE and the University of Queensland is currently being carried out with the support of the Horticultural Research and Development Corporation. SCM is a concept that has evolved in recent years to reflect the fundamental changes that have occurred in the relationship between producers of primary products, suppliers and retailers. The objectives of the project are to create a horticultural model for Australian horticulture that will:
-      Increase consumer’s value for money
-      Reduce costs in the supply chain
-      Improve response to customer needs
-      Facilitate new product innovation
-      Increase competitiveness and long term sustainability throughout the production, distribution and marketing ‘chain’
-      Improve the market share of fresh fruit and vegetables in the retail sector.
