Authors:   P. Arce-johnson, M. Ríos, M. Zúñiga, E. Vergara
Keywords:   Vaccinium, RAPD, certification
Abstract:
Blueberry culture is a very important commercial activity in Chile, especially in the south. Currently, there are 1800 ha planted and in the 2000-2001 season, the exported volume of fresh fruit will be over 4000 tons. Hortifrut S.A. is the main blueberry exporter and producer in the country, and has initiated the first Plant Certification Program in Chile, which includes phytosanitary status and variety genuinety. To differentiate in a rapid-way the cultivars planted in the country, RAPD marker technology has been used in this work. The combined use of two 10-nucleotide primers allows the identification of the 5 most important highbush blueberry varieties for Chile.
