Abstract:
FOREWORD
The Twentieth International Eucarpia Symposium Section Ornamentals was held at the Department of Plant Genetics and Breeding (DvP-CLO), Melle, Belgium from 3-6 July 2001. One of the aims of Eucarpia is to activate scientific and technical collaboration in the field of plant breeding and exchange of know-how and plant material.
This symposium offered therefore a meeting platform for all that are involved in the creation of new ornamentals: scientists, students and professionals from public and private domain.
The theme "Strategies for New Ornamentals" covered the past and the future, classical approaches and new developments, the work of professionals and of amateurs, the fundamental and the applied aspects in ornamental plant breeding.
During the meeting the scientific committee selected 23 posters (out of 89) from which the full paper is included in this volume of Acta Horticulturae.
Submitted manuscripts were reviewed by two referees and amended according to their suggestions prior to acceptance.
The texts of the oral communications were already published earlier in Acta Horticulturae n°552.
