Abstract:
Forcing of Polygonatum odoratum var. pluriflorum ‘NARUKO-RAN’
(variegated genotypes) was investigated.
The dormancy of ‘NARUKO-RAN’ breaks in December by exposure to natural low temperatures.
Chilling treatments of rhizomes are effective to force sprout and flowering.
Higher night temperatures produced earlier flowering, but the differences in the number of days to flower was small.
Marketable quality of ‘NARUKO-RAN’ can be produced in early spring if rhizomes are stored at 5C for 10-70 days from December and planted in a greenhouse without heating.
