ISHS Acta Horticulturae 57: I International Symposium on Tropical and Subtropical Fruits

RECENT ADVANCES IN RESEARCH ON POST-HARVEST HANDLING OF TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL FRUIT

Authors:   D.G. Coursey, O.J. Burden, June E. Rickard
Abstract:
The paper reviews various investigations undertaken to minimise post-harvest losses in tropical and subtropical fruit, especially projects in which the Tropical Products Institute has been involved. These include improved handling methods, simple mechanisation, controlled atmosphere storage, the use of refrigeration and the use of chemical fungicides. These are discussed in their application to the export of bananas, plantains, mangoes, pawpaws, avocados, breadfruit and pineapples, and to local trade in these commodities.
