Abstract:
- Physiological Effects of Agrobacterium rhizogenes Inoculation in Artemisia annua (Asteraceae) Cultivated in Vitro
The objective of the present study was to obtain and culture roots of a superior genotype of Artemisia annua (hybrid CPQBA 2/39 x PL5) by inoculation with A. rhizogenes. This material is well adapted to Brazilian conditions and selected to give high yields of artemisinine.
Strains 15834, an agropine producer, and 8196, a manopine producer were used for A. rhizogenes inoculation and subsequent transformation.
Transformed roots obtained by inoculation from both strains were used for physiological investigations.
These included variations in culture medium composition, plant growth regulators, additives such as coconut milk and anti-auxin – TIBA. The results obtained were used to assess callus production, morphogenic processes.
Methods of overcoming regeneration recalcitrance and production of transgenic plants were tested.
