Abstract:
- Substrate Effect on the Heteropteris aphrodisiaca O. Mach Seeds Germination
The “nó-de-cachorro” (Heteropteris aphrodisiaca O. Mach.) is a medicinal plant of great importance to Brazil.
This study was carried out in order to determine the effect of substrates on germination, as well as to establish some physical characteristics of the seeds of this species.
The germination substrates were analyzed as follows: in vermiculite, in sand, paper roll and top of paper.
The experiment was conducted in a completely ramdomized design with four treatments, six replicates and 50 seeds as experimental unit. The best results were obtained with the in vermiculite and paper roll substrates, which showed higher rate of germination and greater germination percentages.
The seeds presented a mean thickness of 3,6mm, width of 5,5mm, length of 9,3mm and an average of 20,640 seeds per kilogram.
