Abstract:
The composition of the essential oil of Ocimum basilicum obtained from two cultivars Maximum and Minimum, cultivated in a hydroponic system showed oil of high quality. The cultivar Maximum accumulated 22 % more of dry matter and 44 % more fresh matter than the Minimum. The extraction of essential oils leaves sum the yielded 0.13 – 0.15 % w/w. The level of main substances in the essential oil of the two studied genotypes, 1.8 cineole (6.97 and 2.72 %), and trans-beta-farnesene (1.77 and 2.52 %), were significantly different. The cultivar used can be classified as European Type or Linalool Rich Type according to monoterpenes content, linalool (50,69 and 50,82 %).
