Abstract:
Two essays were carried out to evaluate the effects of pre-treatments on the Brosimum gaudichaudii Trec. seed germination.
In the first essay the treatments used were: (1) Small seeds, (2) Middle seeds, (3) Large seeds.
In the second essay the seeds were submit to the treatments: (1) Intact seed, (2) Intact seeds immersed in distilled water for 12h, (3) Intact seeds immersed in distilled water for 24, (4) Seeds with tegument removed around the hilo and immersed in distilled water for 12h, (5) Seed with tegument removed around the hilo and immersed in distilled water for 24h, (6) Seeds without tegument and not immersed in distilled water.
There was not significant difference in the size seeds to the germination percentage that varied of 22,5% to 29%. Seeds with tegument removed around the hilo and immersed in distilled water for 24h showed the largest germination percentage (83,3%) and the seeds showed impermeability to the water.
The best method to promote and to accelerate the germination was the complete removal of the seed tegument.
