STORAGE OF STRAWBERRY POLLEN

Authors:   R. Aslantas, L. Pirlak
Keywords:   Fragaria x ananassa, pollen storage, germination
Abstract:
This study was carried out to determine storage of strawberry pollen at different temperatures for three different strawberry cultivars ‘Aliso’, ‘Brio’, and ‘Cruz’. Strawberry pollen was stored at room temperature (22 ± 2 oC), +4 ºC, -4 ºC and –18 ºC in stabile humidity conditions. Strawberry pollens was germinated using the hanging drop method in a 20 % sucrose solution. Pollen germination rate increased with low temperature storage. Pollen stored at room temperature, +4 ºC, -4 ºC, and –18 ºC were kept 8 months, about a year, and 20 months, respectively. Germination rates of pollen decreased with long storages. Storage time was the same for all of the cultivars.
