Abstract:
In addition to 10 American strawberry cultivars, 8 Italian varieties and 50 clones were assessed on the northeastern coast of USA during 1997-1998. The evaluation of the Italian genotypes, which are noted in Italy for their fruit size and productivity, was to determine their adaptability to a new environment and market. 90-190-2 (79-183-3 x Md.US4774), 90-109-2 (84-50-11 x Addie x Pajaro), 90-112-12 (84-50-13 x Marmolada), Granda (83-5-8 x Marmolada) and Patty (Honeoye x Marmolada) demonstrated high yield and fruit size, performing at a similar level to their performance in Italy.
CN 89-523-1 (Elsanta x MdUS3816), a productive clone (758 g/pl) produced larger and firmer berries than Elsanta, its flavour being highly rated.
