Abstract:
For an extended season of strawberry harvest, the French breeding program at CIREF, recently released a range of June-bearing and day-neutral type cultivars: Early cropping (like Gariguette):Cigaline (high flavour, improvement of Gariguette). Mid-early (like Pajaro):Ciflorette (very high flavour); Cigoulette (improvement of Belrubi). Mid-season (like Darselect): Cireine (highly attractive, good taste); Cilady (nice dark fruit for processing). Mid-late (like Valeta): Ciloé (very high yield and long shelf-life). Day-Neutral: Cijosée (challenger of Seascape, juicy and good taste); Cirafine (challenger of Mara des Bois, high flavour); Cirano (for home-gardens and bio, highly sugared). These cultivars were selected from 1989 using strong selection methods in order to improve the fruit flavour and the plant disease resistance.
All are protected by the Community Plant Variety Rights.
Licences are managed by SICASOV and the propagation is made by the nurserymen within the French Plant Certification Scheme, using micropropagated plants from the CTIFL.
