| Abstract:
Since 1993, the Italian public strawberry breeding programs have merged in the National project “Frutticoltura”, mainly funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MIPAF), Basilicata, Emilia-Romagna and Piemonte Regions, Verona Province and some private strawberry growers associations. The “Frutticoltura” project aims to obtain dessert strawberry varieties adapted to the different environmental conditions and culture techniques of Po Valley, Southern Italy and Northern Italy mountain areas. Four cultivars (Onda, Paros, Patty and Granda), released in 1998 and 1999, and two promising selections are described. | |
