| Abstract:
VPP Corporation based in Oakland, CA has a strawberry cultivar development program utilizing both traditional breeding techniques. This breeding program is releasing two new cultivars, Colima and Whitney which are currently being grown commercially under license in Northern California. These cultivars will also be evaluated in other domestic and foreign production areas starting in the fall of 2000. Several further cultivars are being considered for commercialization within the next two years. Cultivars that have herbicide resistance and enhanced fungal resistance are being developed at DNA Plant Technology using genetic engineering. | |
