Abstract:
A recommendation system for nitrogen top dressing that uses the nitrate concentration in the sap of the petiole of mature vegetable leaves, as an indicator of the nutrient status at distinct growth stages of vegetables, is presented.
A comparison of two recommendation systems, one based on soil analysis, the other based on plant-sap analysis, not only shows the high variability in both systems, but also an acceptable coincidence of top dressing recommendations based on the two systems.
Plant-sap analysis could replace or be considered as complementary to N-min analysis.
