PHYTOMONITORING: THE NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FOR IMPROVING CROP PRODUCTION

Authors:   Y. Ton, N. Nilov, M. Kopyt
Keywords:   phytomonitoring, plant stress, and greenhouse climate control
Abstract:
Phytomonitoring is the first practicable computerized technology for observing real-time situation as well as long-term development of plants in greenhouses. Being introduced between a grower and cultivated plants the phytomonitoring system provides him with essential information about crop physiological conditions. The phytomonitoring technology combines (1) data acquisition system based on specific sensors and (2) data processing software, which presents measuring information in terms of plant physiology and agronomy. First of all, the phytomonitoring system may play a role of watch-dog unit warning a grower in case of coming problems caused by both any latent failure of control equipment and human faults. Besides, the system helps a grower to reduce damage or loss of the crop in severe climate conditions. And, finally, it is a perfect tool for comparative examination of different treatments and materials.
