ISHS Acta Horticulturae 560: IV International Symposium on In Vitro Culture and Horticultural Breeding

THE INFLUENCE OF MEDIA COMPOSITION ON THE PROLIFERATION AND MORPHOLOGY OF FICUS BENJAMINA PLANTLETS

Authors:   D. Rzepka-Plevnes, J. Kurek
Keywords:   Ficus benjamina, proliferation rate, cytokinins
Abstract:
Plant hormones are among the most important physiological factors affecting the regeneration of plants in vitro. In this work the influence of cytokinins BAP and 2-ip on the development of proliferated plantlets of two varieties (Natasja and Starlight) of Ficus benjamina was investigated. On the basis of 5 variation of the growth regulators tested, we have observed that cytokinins increased, in respect to control, the number of adventitious shoots produced in explants and independent of variety. The best response to the culture conditions in this case was observed in genotype Starlight on MS medium supplemented with 3.0 mg/l BAP. The results presented provided that plantlets of both tested varieties of Ficus benjamina grown in medium with cytokinins are generally shorter and developed shorter leaves as compared to the control plantlets.
