ISHS Acta Horticulturae 560: IV International Symposium on In Vitro Culture and Horticultural Breeding

GENETIC HETEROGENEITY OF CLONES IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF APOMIXIS IN VITRO AND IN VIVO

Author:   T.B. Batygina
Keywords:   apomixis, embryo, seed, apogamety, androgenesis, semigamy, parthenogenesis.
Abstract:
Now the obtaining of new plant forms by reproductive structures cloning including ovule-seed is a perspective trend in embryology and biotechnology. Different types of seeds on the base of embryo origin such as seeds with sexual (zygotic) embryos, seeds with semigamous chimaerous, androgenous embryos, seeds with parthenogenetic embryos, seeds with somatic embryos were distinguished (Batygina, 1999). This ensures more correct use of embryos in the in vitro culture. Unlike “normal” seeds containing only zygotic embryos, in heterogenous seeds different processes (sexual, asexual and gametophytic apomixis) take place side by side. All complicated and multistage processes occurring in a seed provide the possibility of reproduction and multiplication of new generations with different genotypes.
