ISHS Acta Horticulturae 560: IV International Symposium on In Vitro Culture and Horticultural Breeding

INDUCTION OF STRESS TOLERANCE IN POTATO MICROPLANTS BY HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IN VITRO

Authors:   E. Rusite, D. Gertnere
Keywords:   Solanum tuberosum L., ethylene, antioxidative defence, stress tolerance
Abstract:
Potato shoot explants were incubated in 1mM H2O2 and the influence of this treatment on the ethylene stress tolerance development was investigated. The activity of the peroxidase was higher, but catalase activity was lower in comparison with control 8 d after the H2O2 treatment. Ethylene caused inhibition of cuttings growth and other ethylene effects were partly prevented. The prevention or diminishing of ethylene effects in potato culture after H2O2 treatment proves, that H2O2 takes part in ethylene signal transduction and potato microculture acclimatization in the ethylene stress conditions in vitro.
