Abstract:
Okra (Hibiscus esculentus L.) is one of the most popular summer vegetable in Turkey.
In different regions, different primitive varieties and their consumption ways have been observed.
There are some special varieties preferred by processing industry and the others to consume as dried or fresh.
In this study a total of 45 land varieties of okra collected in Turkey were evaluated for phenotypic traits.
Considerable variation was observed in leaf shape and colour, fruit shape and partly fruit length at maturity.
A distinct leaf-shape was observed, which does not exist in IBPGR descriptor (Charrier, 1984).
