EFFECTS OF SIMULATED ACID RAIN ON LONGAN PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Authors:   D.L. Qiu, X.H. Liu, S.Z. Guo
Keywords:   Acid rain, Dimorcarpus longan Lour., photosynthesis, respiration
Abstract:
The effects of acid rain on photosynthesis of longan cv. Wulongling were studied. Net photosynthetic (Pn) and intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci) declined when the pH values was lower than 3.5. In contrast, stomatal conductance (Cs) increased when the leaves were treated with artificial acid rain. These data indicated that the decline of Pn was caused by non-stomatal factors. However, the decline of Cs treated with pH 2.5 acid rain was paralleled with the decline of apparent quantum yield (AQY) which implied that the reduction of Pn was caused by the stomatal and non-stomatal factors. Dark respiration (Rd) increased with the decline in pH.
