Abstract:
Growth of fruit and hormonal balance were studied in the large and the normal fruit in litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) cvs Wanxuan No.5 and Nuomici. Large fruit had a large seed, long liquid endosperm life span, and high ratio of gibberellin (GA) + indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) + isopentenyl adenosine (iPA)/abscisic acid (ABA) in the ovaries, fruitlets, and in the pericarp. They also had a large pericarp and aril, and the coordinated growth between the two tissues. Fruit development in ‘Wanxuan No.5’ was in the order of seed, pericarp and aril.
