Abstract:
This paper reports on embryo abortion and pollen influence in ‘Nuomici’ and ‘Guiwei’ litchi.
The mechanisms of embryo abortion were different in these cultivars and the proportion of shriveled-seeded fruit was largely dependent on pollen parents.
The proportion of shriveled-seeded fruit was about 81-90% for ‘Nuomici’, after pollinating with ‘Sanyuehong’, ‘Heiye’, ‘Guiwei’, ‘Hongli’, ‘Jiangjunli’, ‘Hexiachuan’, and ‘Xuhuaizi’, but only 7.5% with ‘Dazao’. In contrast, frequency of shriveled- seeded fruit in ‘Guiwei’ was 4.7, 17.6, 25.0, 30.0, 64.8, 75.0 and 95.1% ‘Zhuangyuanhong’, ‘Jiangjunli’, ‘Sanyuehong’, ‘Huaizhi’ and ‘Nuomici’.
