Abstract:
The effect of IBA and collection time on rooting of cuttings of 18 different interspecific hybrid hazelnut (C. americana x C. avellana) genotypes was investigated.
IBA concentrations of 0, 750, 1500 and 3000 ppm were applied to softwood cuttings, and 1000, 2000 and 4000 ppm were applied to semi-hardwood cuttings.
Treated cuttings were inserted in plastic trays filled with 50% perlite + 50% vermiculite and then placed in a greenhouse on bottom heated benches and misted intermittently.
Rooting was evaluated two months after planting, and percent rooting, number of main roots per cutting, and percentage of cuttings with callus were recorded.
Rooting of hazelnut cuttings generally was promoted by IBA treatments, and there was considerable variability in rooting among the genotypes.
Most genotypes rooted poorly.
The best rooting was obtained for softwood cuttings of genotype 9-15 and semi-hardwood cuttings of genotype 9-25.
