Abstract:
With the objective to reduce the energy input in the application of heat treatment for disinfection of recirculation water in closed cultivation systems, the lowest lethal temperatures in combination with exposure times were established.
Lethal temperatures of Fusarium oxysporum, Pythium aphanidermatum, Phytophthora cryptogea and Radopholus similis were 54°C, 51°C, 44°C and 53°C respectively, after an exposure time of 15 seconds.
Erwinia chrysanthemi was eradicated after an exposure time of 105 seconds at 54°C. Because of practical reasons one recommendation was made up for growers against plant pathogenic fungi, bacteria and nematodes; disinfection of recirculation water at a temperature of 60°C during two minutes.
The energy input at 60°C for two minutes will be reduced with 42% in comparison with heat treatment at 95°C during 30 seconds.
