Abstract:
Candida oleophila reduced the level of infection caused by Penicillium expansum in harvested fruit, e.g. nectarines (Lurie et.al., 1995). Nutrient competition and induced host resistance have been shown to play a role in the mode of action of the yeast, in general, as a biocontrol agent.
Preliminary experiments were conducted to determine whether fatty acids produced at the wound site by the biocontrol agent C. oleophila, play a role in the biocontrol of P. expansum rot on apple.
