RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DRY JUICE SAC AND QUALITY OF FREMONT TANGERINE |

| Abstract:
Tangerine is a commercial fruit crop in Thailand, where most of this fruit is consumed fresh. The main tangerine production areas are near Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phrae and Nan province, where they occupy about 4% of the fruit tree production area, equalling about 43,000 hectares. Fremont is one of the varieties grown in Amphur Fang, Chiang Mai province. One of the serious problems in Fremont production is dry juice sac. The cause of this is not clear, but it may be affected by tree age, fruit size, crop load, harvest time or fertilizer (Burns et al., 1998). In Thailand the problem is primarily a late-season one, associated with sunburn. Since dry juice sac is almost impossible to detect by any external markings (Smoot et al., 1971), the present study aimed to find the correlate this symptom with the physical and chemical properties of the fruit. The results may enable us to detect this symptom without cutting the fruit. | |
