CHARACTERISTICS OF THE JONATHAN SPOT DISORDER IN THE JONATHAN APPLE FRUIT

Authors:   E. Delian, I. Burzo, A. Voican, A. Dobrescu
Keywords:   apple cv. Jonathan, physiological disorder, Jonathan spot
Abstract:
Jonathan spot is a disorder characterized by irregular small brown to black spots on the skin, found mainly on Jonathan apples. The causes of this physiological disorder are still not fully understood, but possible predisposing factors which have been suggested include: insufficient use of nitrogen fertilizer, late harvest, delayed cooling, and prolonged storage (Dris et al., 1998).

In order to study some physiological and biochemical characteristics of the apple tissue affected by Jonathan spot, we analyzed samples of sound and affected fruits during their storage period.
