Abstract:
Crop load is an important preharvest factor affecting apple fruit quality and fruit susceptibility to many storage disorders.
For some cultivars this includes gas-related disorders, such as brown heart and internal browning.
Internal CO2 and O2 in fruit may be important in the development of some of these disorders.
In this study we have assessed the effects of crop load on internal gas composition, permeance and lenticellular characteristics in ‘Braeburn’ fruit.
