| Abstract:
Banana is one of the most important fruits crop, with a global annual production of about 56 million tonnes (FAO, 1999). India, Brazil, Ecuador, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico are the major banana producing countries. It is widely consumed, and the fruit is exported from many producing countries to Europe. However, the fruit quality may be influenced by various factors that affect acceptance by the consumer. Cultivars differ in characteristics such as shape, size, color of peel and flavor. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physical, physicochemical and biochemical characteristics, and the sensory attributes of the banana cultivar ‘Gran Enana’, that is grown and harvested in the Canary Islands, Spain, and several American countries. | |
