THE FIELD DISTRIBUTION OF HOP LATENT VIROID WITHIN POLISH HOP CULTIVARS

Authors:   E. Solarska, M. Grudzińska
Keywords:   Hops, Hop latent viroid (HLVd), Polish hop cultivars, Dot-blot hybridisation
Abstract:
Main cultivars of hops growing in 14 hop-gardens in different areas of Lublin region in Poland were tested for the presence of hop latent viroid (HLVd). The cultivars Marynka, Lubelski, Izabella and Lomik were taken into consideration. Mother plants of cultivars Marynka, Lubelski, Izabella, Lomik, Oktawia, Sybilla, Nadwiślański, Limbus and Zbyszko growing in nursery hop-gardens were also tested. Pathogen was detected in cones by dot-blot hybridisation. The differences in HLVd incidence between hop-gardens with the same cultivars but situated at different sites of Lublin region were observed. The incidence of HLVd infection was the lowest in the hop-garden with Lomik cultivar in Lublin district, where only 30% of plants were found to be diseased. Plants of main cultivars growing in nursery hop-gardens were more infected than plants of these cultivars in commercial hop-gardens.
