Abstract:
The occurrence of the Apple stem pitting virus (ASPV) and its strain Pear vein yellows virus (PVYV) has been studied in the Czech Republic.
A strain of ASPV was mechanically inoculated on indicator hosts (Nicotiana occidentalis 37B, N. occidentalis subp. obliqua, Chenopodium murale, C. quinoa). The presence of the virus was confirmed in the diseased leaves of these indicator hosts by electron microscopy.
Specific and effective RT-PCR methods have been adapted for the detection of ASPV (PVYV). Eight cultivars of apple & three cultivars of pear from production orchards and four cultivars of apple from nursery orchards were tested by RT-PCR. The evidence of presence of ASPV have been proved in several tested cultivars of apple and pear.
