Abstract:
The supply of Dutch tulip bulbs
- The growth of production in the period from 1967 to 1973 incl. was caused by an expansion of the area planted and an increase in the unit yield per unit of area.
Both factors contributed in about the same degree to an average annual increase in production of 80 million deliverable units.
- The development of the price of tulip bulbs scarcely if at all influenced the development of the area planted in the period from 1967 to 1973 incl.
This is understandable, too, since the costs of production must also be included in this explanation.
However, bulb firms which are principally engaged in tulip growing do have clear indications of a positive relation between development of earning power and changes in area planted.
