Abstract:
The paper discusses different approaches with try to analyse the competitive advantages and disadvantages of horticultural production areas.
Models are classified according to the scope they cover products and according to their regional scope.
One-product-models do not take into account the competition among horticulture and other sectors of agriculture or general economy, while multi-product-models do so.
On the other hand models may be concentrated on a specific region and horticulture within the resource use of this region.
It is shown that the majority of empirical studies in the field of location in horticulture start with rather partial view-points and thus failed to integrate the repercussions of alternative resource use and of alternative production areas.
