Abstract:
The speakers who follow will give more attention to the popular aspects of our field of study - those that bring most people together, i.e. production economics and marketing economics.
It is only in these two aspects that we can proceed to advance knowledge and pass it on to others along recognized lines.
We have been criticized for losing sight of economics in some of our published work in these aspects, but there are many other aspects in which the economic attitude is not yet apparent, or at least has not been developed by economists to the point at which they can, say, exchange views internationally because there are agreed terms and procedures they can use.
For example, the social economics of horticulture does not have a framework, and the policy field is not well-defined.
